School of Missions (SOM)

If you have a heart to go where the Gospel has not yet gone or the Chinese speaking world specifically but just don’t know how to prepare or go YWAM Taipei’s SoM can help you. The SoM is uniquely designed to prepare people for ministry specific to frontier locations and unreached peoples by giving them valuable training and practical hands-on ministry opportunities. You start by living here in a cross-cultural setting with lots of opportunities to experience cross-cultural living and ministry.

All classes and activities are bi-lingual in English and Mandarin with the lecture phase lasting 12 weeks. Each week focuses on a specific topic and is taught by a field-based teacher with years of experience in frontier and cross-cultural ministry.

Testimonies

Taiwan SOFM is a good training school for new or seasoned missionaries, especially for those who are called to serve the Lord long-term as some of the topics are about language acquisition, member care, leadership development, etc. I have seen that new missionaries often do not see this training as necessary, but if we want to thrive in the mission field long-term, it is important to be equipped and I believe SoFM does a great job at doing just that.

In the fall of 2016 I joined the School of Frontier Mission. In the three-month training, what I learned the most are how a team functions with different parts coordinating together, how to learn a new language, and how to develop a ministry from scratch. During our lecture phase, we were divided into small groups to pray together, to receive God’s Word, to discuss and conclude common vision and decide on the people groups to serve, and we learned to use our different gifts to support each other as we begin a ministries. Apart from that, we also learned how to conduct “field survey”, “design leaflets” and “recruit” before setting up new ministry. I was also encouraged from these as I consider the vision “church planting”, as I understand more how to use my own gifts to share the Gospel, as well as to enjoy the process of serving, and to see God’s heart when He walks with us.
