School of Biblical Studies (SBS)

The SBS is a nine-month course in which the participant studies all 66 books of the Bible, the Word of God. You learn to study the Scriptures, using the inductive approach, in which you observe what the text says and then let it shape your beliefs as opposed to the deductive method, where one approaches the Bible with a preconceived idea and searches the scripture for support. The SBS will equip individuals to rightly handle the Word of truth. Giving them the ability to better observe and see what the Word has to say, learning to interpret what was originally meant by the Word, and how then it can be applied properly in whatever situation or ministry one finds themselves in.

Vision

Curriculum

There are three core values we want to see instilled in our participants by the end of the nine-month course:

Grounded in Truth: We believe in equipping believers with the foundational truth of God’s Word. Every participant will inductively study  through the entire Bible, reading each book five times through during the 9-month course. We believe the Bible can lay a strong foundation for life and each participant must be grounded in its truth.

Growing in Relationship: We believe that part of being grounded in God’s truth means that our participants find a deepening relationship, not only with God, but also with fellow participants. A true understanding of God’s Word leads to a growing relationship with God and with others.

Giving Out As We Receive: We are privileged to study the Bible in an unreached nation; Taiwan, as a whole, is approximately 3% Christian.  Consequently, our third goal in SBS is focused around evangelism.
We don’t want to just study Bible – we want to tell others about the truth of Jesus

The SBS is offered in a series of three-month phases:

  • Interpreting the Scriptures I: This phase is the introduction to the SBS, covering most of the New Testament books.
  • Interpreting the Scriptures II: This includes completing the inductive study of the New Testament, as well as, studying from Genesis through I Kings of the Old Testament.
  • Interpreting the Scriptures III: This session focuses on the inductive study of II Kings through Malachi completing your study of the Bible.

Testimonies

Through SBS, I learned to live out truths from the Bible! I learned how to think independently, consider other people’s perspectives and be sensitive and inductive when I’m making conclusions. SBS has affected me in many different aspects, spiritually and in my daily living, until today!

Alice Lee (Taiwan)

2013 SBS participant

During the course of School of Biblical Studies (SBS), I learned many things:

  1. To rest is to live in God – As Him and His Word being the first priority of my life, I would find rest and joy in any circumstances.
  2. And about love – the kind different to the world – a combination of reverence and love.
  3. Another is obedience – while being refreshed and dealing with repentance is an everyday matter,  I learned to see people and the world in His way and being available for Him. Instead myself being in control of everything, I pray that people would be able to see His power working in me, and through me people will be drawn near to Him.
